NBC News Feature On Affordability Of Summer Camp
NBC TV News: Send the Kids to Summer Camp Without Breaking the Budget, April 17, 2009 http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Send_the_Kids_to_Summer_Camp_Without_Breaking_the_Budget_Washington_DC.html
It seems camp is being depicted as a commodity. Are there too many camps offering the same thing thereby creating an overabundance of supply? How do high priced private camps distinguish the services they offer from those offering a less expensive alternative? Is there a distinction?
I believe in the genuine value of learning life lessons, taking personal responsibility, taking healthy risks, getting along with others, developing independence. However, it’s hard to get those across in a sound bite. And so the focus gets back to money, and no business can thrive when the focus is purely on price. Then you are a commodity, and that is not good. Camp needs to connect with families on an emotional level and connect with them in areas that they value. What do you think?
